Allegations, legal threats and counter-threats are at the centre of the claims of who is behind the formation of the Congress of the People. COPE was formed in 2008 after former President Thabo Mbeki, was fired, months before the end of his term of office. Broadcaster, Dr Onkgopotse JJ Tabane has made shocking claims about who was behind the establishment of the party. He mentioned former Finance Ministers Trevor Manuel and Tito Mboweni, along with former President Thabo Mbeki. Manuel is now looking at legal action against Tabane over claims he made during a recent YouTube interview.
