Cavalier (Jean-Paul Belmondo), az első világháborús francia vadászpilóta, mint ökölvívóedző a berlini olimpiára érkezik. A versenyen újra találkozik egykori háborús ellenfelével és barátjával, egy német repülőstiszttel. Amikor Cavalier megtudja, hogy egy zsidó család élete veszélyben forog, megkéri barátját, hogy segítsen kimenekíteni őket a náci Németországból.
