CANADIAN ARMY WWII INDOCTRINATION FILM "BATTLE IS OUR BUSINESS" 53554

Made in 1943 by the National Film Board of Canada, BATTLE IS OUR BUSINESS shows basic training of troops for the Canadian Army. The film has a dual purpose, stressing both the continuing importance of the infantry in modern warfare, and the importance of training in producing good infantrymen. The short opens with shots of a parade: NCO explains value of drill; various sorts of weapons training (bayonet; loading/aiming/firing rifles; cleaning 2" mortars and Brens; firing Brens and Thompson submachineguns at 12:50). Soldiers relax in bunkroom, play baseball; classroom training (map-reading); AA drill, with rifles and Bren; PT and an assault course. More recreation material (a bar, and a dance at 19 minutes); Reveille and another parade: CO tells men this is the end of preliminary training, their first major exercise. Some film as CO briefs officers and NCO's: long sequence on the exercise itself - "Training is beginning to count; I know I'm a soldier now".
