On June 5, 2018, the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto was the site of the Canadian film premiere of “Hunger For Truth: The Rhea Clyman Story", presented by the Canada-Ukraine Foundation National Holodomor Awareness Tour.
The groundbreaking documentary profiles the story of Rhea Clyman, the Canadian correspondent who became the first Western journalist to witness and write about Stalin’s forced famine in Ukraine. Directed by award-winning filmmaker, Andrew Tkach, the documentary gives a voice to Rhea Clyman’s eyewitness accounts of the state-sponsored starvation and suffering which ravaged Ukraine in 1932 and 1933.
The film premiere was attended by Canadian journalists, community leaders, sponsors, members of the diplomatic corps, and surviving relatives of Rhea Clyman. The screening was followed by an impactful panel discussion focusing on the role of journalism in an era of disinformation and fake news.
