A film egy szörnyű tragédia történetét meséli el egy újságíró szemszögéből... A Mount Everest megmászása még a profiknak is gondot okoz, ám két egymással rivalizáló hegymászó abból él, hogy amatőröket visznek fel a csúcsra. Ilyen körülmények között azonban a tragédia szinte elkerülhetetlen. Habár az emberek rengeteget fizetnek az eredetileg fantasztikusnak ígérkező kalandért, sokan nem élik túl a hegyet, amikor a csúcsról ereszkedve egy hatalmas hóviharba kerülnek.
