How can one afford to buy health insurance after you quit your job? I quit my job 3 years ago and I survived! I was able to purchase health insurance and there are various discounts you can receive based on your income. Of course, when you quit, the insurance will likely be no where as cheap as buying it through your employer because they offer a low health insurance cost as a perk to you. In California, you have a health portal at coveredca.com which you can preview how much health insurance would cost if you just up and leave your current job. Yes... say goodbye to your boss forever! Keep in mind I'm not getting some random low coverage insurance but rather from Kaiser or Blue Shield of California.
