1938 őszén vonult be a Magyar Királyi Honvédség a majdnem színmagyar Felvidékre. Horthy Miklós magyar államfőt Kassa óriási lelkesedéssel fogadta, de a kormányzó fontosnak tartotta, hogy szlovákul is beszédet mondjon. Molnár Imre történész segít értelmezni ezt a jelenséget.
