We visited Heroes' Square in Budapest, which did not disappoint.
Marking the end of Andrassy Avenue and the gateway to City Park, it is an urban masterpiece from any angle. Approaching from the avenue, you can see its 120-foot high column with Archangel Gabriel on top from afar.

Heroes' Square is one of Budapest's grandest landmarks. In fact, it's the largest public square in the city. Swing by this area to take a picture of the Millenary Monument, which was erected in 1896 to celebrate Hungary's 1000th anniversary.

The square and the monument are dedicated to those who lost their lives while fighting for the country's independence. At the base of the famous column (topped with the Archangel Gabriel) are statues representing seven Magyar chieftains – considered to be the founders of the Hungarian nation. Behind the column are matching colonnades with 14 statues of royalty and other important figures in Hungarian history.

Past travelers said that although it doesn't take a long time to explore, it should be a stop on every first-time visitor's list. If you have some spare time, wander into the adjacent park or snap a few pics in front of the nearby wooden "Budapest" sign.

Heroes' Square, is free to access 24 hours a day and offers an amazing opportunity for great pictures during the day or while it is illuminated at night.
