Trish különböző lopásokért már ült börtönben, de nem bír megszabadulni ettől a szokásától. Ő neveli a kis unokahúgát, Patsy-t, akit megtanított pár trükkre. Épp karácsony előtt lebuknak egy áruházban, de az ünnepre való tekintettel „házi őrizetben” tartják őket addig, amíg a bíróság és a hivatalok újra ki nem nyitnak. Az áruház igazgatója a bolt egyik alkalmazottjára, Bert-re bízza, hogy vigyázzon a lányokra. A kényszerű helyzet sem Trish-nek, sem Berth-nek nem tetszik.
