Az 1850-es években járunk. Egy fiatal fiú és családja nyugatra tartó útjuk során a Sziklás-hegységben rekednek, ahol könyörtelen rablók és pusztító viharok fenyegetik őket. A fiúnak eme nehéz körülmények között kell helytállnia, szerencsére egy barátságos hegyi ember, egy sziú javasember és egy legendás medve segít neki elindulni az idő előtti felnőtté válás rögös útján ebben a lélegzetelállító családi kalandfilmben.
