To však neurobil Ryan (Chris Evans), ktorému náhodne zatelefonuje Jessica Matrinová (Kim Basinger) a tvrdí, že ju uniesli neznámi únoscovia a to isté hrozí aj jej manželovi Craigovi (Richard Burgi) a synovi Rickymu (Adam Taylor Gordon). Ryan je pre Jessicu jediným človekom, ktorý jej môže pomôcť. On má zase v rukách jej život i život jej rodiny. V snahe pomôcť im všetkým sa dostane do sveta vrážd a podvodov a to všetko bez toho, aby vedel, kto je v skutočnosti na druhej strane telefónu a čo ho za jeho snahu za záchranu ich životov vlastne čaká
