Momo, a kis csavargólány a városszéli amfiteátrumban él barátaival. Elégedett életével, nem vágyik semmi másra. Az Időtakarékpénztár vezetői meggyőzik az embereket arról, hogy takarékoskodjanak az idővel, s adják nekik megőrzésre feleslegesnek ítélt idejüket. Persze az üzlettel csak ők járnak jól; az emberek élete szürke és egysíkú lesz. Momo fellép az időtakarékos pénztárosok ellen és visszaadja minden embernek azt, ami megilleti őt.
