🎬VIDEO - I Canceled 5 Amex Cards (Fully Explained): https://youtu.be/np-dE6jEois

MY AMEX CREDIT CARD JOURNEY…
- Since the beginning in 2013, I’ve opened a total of 29 Amex card accounts, of which 18 have been closed and 11 of which remain open.

YEAR: 2013
- I opened 2 Amex credit cards, the Amex Blue Sky Card and the Amex Blue Cash Everyday card. I actually got these about 3 days apart since the initial credit limit I was given on the Blue Sky Card was tiny (only $1,000) … so, I applied for another 😀

YEAR: 2015
- I opened the Hilton Honors American Express card and the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card. I was traveling a lot at the time, so getting a couple hotel credit cards made a lot of sense. I also canceled the Amex Blue Sky card as it was no longer serving any purpose for me.

YEAR: 2016
- I opened 6 Amex cards: The Hilton Honors Surpass card for the welcome offer and elevated rewards categories, the Amex Premier Rewards Gold Card to earn more flexible Membership Rewards points, another Hilton Amex card with no annual fee, the Amex Platinum Card which only had a $450 annual fee at the time, the Amex EveryDay Card for the 0% APR offer, and the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card which had a $195 annual fee at the time. I also canceled 2 credit cards later in the year: the SPG card and the Hilton Honors Surpass.

YEAR: 2017
- I added 3 new Amex cards: the Starwood Preferred Guest Business card, the Amex Business Platinum Card, and the Amex Business Gold card.

YEAR: 2018
- This time I added the Schwab Platinum Card in order to redeem Amex Membership Rewards points at a rate of 1.25¢ each for cash back (now 1.10¢), the SPG Luxury Card for a limited-time opportunity, the Amex Blue Business Plus card to earn 2X Membership Rewards points on all purchases, and the Amex Green Card (back then it only earned 1X points on all purchases, so a lot less compelling that today’s version!). I also canceled 6 card accounts.

YEAR: 2019
- I applied for the Hilton Honors Aspire Card directly AND upgraded a previously opened Hilton Honors card ($0 annual fee) to a second Hilton Honors Aspire Card. That provided me with 2 opportunities to earn 15,000 Hilton Honors points, a couple Hilton Honors free night rewards, $1,000 in credits, and more! I also opened the Amex Business Green Rewards Card, the personal version of the Amex Gold Card, and the Amex Platinum Card. I closed the Amex EveryDay Card.

YEAR: 2020
- I opened 1 Amex credit card (the Amex Blue Business Cash) and 1 Amex charge card (the Amex Business Gold Card). I also closed both of my Hilton Honors Aspire accounts, one of which was downgraded to the Hilton Honors American Express Card with no annual fee a bit earlier to determine if I wanted to keep at least 1 Hilton credit card open.

YEAR: 2021
- I added 3 Amex Business cards (2 Platinum, 1 Gold, both under Amex No Lifetime Language Offers). I proceeded to close out my Amex Business Green Rewards Card.

YEAR: 2022
- I opened the Hilton Honors Business credit card, another Amex Business Gold Card, and the Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card. 5 Amex accounts got closed, which I discussed in a separate video.
