American Express launched a new pre approval process for their credit card applications. It functions in a similar way to applying for the Apple Card, whereby you submit your application and get an approved / denied decision BEFORE a hard pull is performed. You may see your credit limit, APR, and any other relevant information that Amex may provide regarding the offer for which you were approved. You can then choose to accept the offer or not. If you accept, then a hard pull may occur and your credit score may be temporarily affected. If you decline, your credit score will not be affected.
At the time of this video, I noticed the following…
- Amex pre approval offers are only showing on PERSONAL Amex cards. This includes personal charge cards (Amex Platinum Card, Amex Gold Card, Amex Green Card) and Amex personal credit cards (Amex Blue Cash Preferred, Delta credit cards, etc.)
- Amex pre approval offers are not showing on Amex BUSINESS cards
- Amex pre approval offers seem to be TARGETED and may not be available to everyone or at all times. If you see one, leave the webpage, and come back later, the feature may not be there when you come back a second time. If you don’t see one, try clearing your browser history, cookies, cache, etc. and then go back to the Amex website to search again. Also try using different browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.), different devices, different WiFi networks, etc.
Furthermore, Amex often does a soft pull if you already have a card relationship with them. So, if you’re going for your 2nd, 3rd, etc. card from them, there’s a good chance it will only be a soft pull (this is not guaranteed, however).
