Geppetto mester magányosan éli mindennapjait. Egyik nap azonban a háza előtt talált tuskóból készít egy fabábut, akit Pinokkió névre keresztel. Másnap reggelre aztán, a mester legnagyobb döbbenetére, a kis bábu egyszer csak életre kel. Geppetto ettől kezdve a fiaként tekint rá, és mindent megpróbál elkövetni azért, hogy Pinokkió iskolába járhasson. Még a kabátját is eladja, hogy könyvet vegyen a fiának, ám az első tanítási napon Pinokkió nem megy be az iskolába, hanem eltűnik. Geppetto persze nagyon aggódik, míg Pinokkióra hatalmas veszélyek leselkednek. Így hát egy hihetetlen kaland veszi kezdetét...
