Teachers announce boycott of primary school re-opening in England over Covid fears - BBC News

The UK government is under intense pressure to reverse plans to reopen primary schools in England, due to fears over the spread of the new variant of the coronavirus.

The UK's largest teaching union says its members should not go back to work. Meanwhile headteachers are taking legal action, to force the Government to explain why it thinks it's safe to reopen primaries outside London and parts of south east England.

The Department for Education is insisting that primaries will re-open as planned and says "schools will implement appropriate safety measures to help mitigate the risk of transmission."

Clive Myrie presents BBC News reporting by education correspondent Dan Johnson and political correspondent Chris Mason.
