An AOB is an assignment of benefits. There is never a good time to sign your AOB over to a contractor. Having a contract with a company to remediate or renovate your property is normal, but there's no reason to sign over your assignment of benefits to the contractor directly.
When you sign an AOB, you relinquish control of your claim to your contractor, in which case your insurance company would then be unable to deal directly with you regarding your claim!! SO BEWARE!!
