🛀 THE BUDAPEST BATHHOUSE BANDIT: Szent Lukács Gyógyfürdő

I am the Budapest Bathhouse Bandit and I steal time in the bath. Come join me at one of the loveliest bathhouses in all of Budapest, the Szent Lukács Gyógyfürdő. It's located on the Buda side of the Danube, right beside the similarly colored Margaret Bridge, and is truly one of the finest bathing facilities in the world as far as I'm concerned. It is an absolute must visit for visitors to the Hungarian capital and is about half the price as well as half as crowded as the more famous Széchenyi. There have been bathers who have come to this sulfur rich spot since the days of the ancient Romans, and probably far before that as well. Back in the 12th century the knights of the order of St. John used to cure their patients in the springs here. Of course the dreaded Turks put these healing waters to use, both for relaxation and to power their weapon making and food production industries. After the Ottoman era this bath fell into a period of decline and was mostly neglected until it was built back up towards the end of the 19th century when tons of money was pouring into Budapest to revitalize the recreational facilities of the Habsburg's second capital. Since then Lukács has been a firm favorite of locals and visitors alike. And it's easy to see why. The modern facility is replete with saunas galore, a sultry steam room, indoor and outdoor baths and all you need to relax and drift off into the melodious mirth of sulfur soaked glory. Come join me as we explore this marvel together.
