E dokumentumfilm Rudolf Hessnek, Hitler egyik legközelebbi munkatársának, barátjának és személyi titkárának az életútját követi végig. Hess 1941-ben titokban Skóciába repült, hogy különbéke-tárgyalásokat kezdjen az angolokkal, de ők elfogták és hadifogolyként bántak vele. A nürnbergi perben mint háborús bűnöst életfogytiglani börtönbüntetésre ítélték. 1987-ben a spandaui börtönben rejtélyes körülmények között végzett magával.
