Inside Paula Sutton's vintage-inspired Hill House and garden | Living with Style

“The house is full of quirky objects” Paula Sutton, 54, says of Hill House, the Georgian property she lives in in Norfolk with her husband and children, Tobias, 22, and twins Daisy and Phoebe, 20. “Some are useful, some are more decorative, but they are all beautiful to me.” In the living room, a working candlestick telephone stands next to a Victorian armchair reupholstered in a red and white gingham, while an old hunting horn rests on a pile of books next to her father’s chess set, which she admits she doesn’t play.

Growing up between south London and Surrey, Sutton has always had a love for vintage objects and Georgian architecture. When she moved to Hill House from south London where she worked in fashion, she began posting vintage finds on her Instagram @HillHouseVintage. It’s a hobby that’s now become a career, with nearly 600k followers with whom she shares her retro-inspired outfits and lifestyle.

A consummate host, Sutton puts on many dinners and summer soiree in her walled garden. “We’ve had so many lovely family times around this table,” she says. “We have lots of sun and lots of rum punches.” They all use and enjoy the ‘vintage gymnasium’ which Sutton extended the garage to accommodate.

Not content on creating beautiful tablescapes and recording her podcast Joy of Home, she’s now written a cosy crime novel, ‘The Potting Shed Murder’, written in her garden office which sits next to her own potting shed. To celebrate, she took Style on a tour of her home.
