The flood disaster is still unfolding across two states but thousands of people are already counting the costs.
With weather events becoming more frequent, some insurance companies are having to increase premiums that are unaffordable for many.
Financial Services Minister Jane Hume told Sky News Australia there is support for people affected in New South Wales and Queensland.
“They are not means-tested, they are widely available,” she said.
