"A Phu and his wife" is a film adaptation of the short story by the late writer To Hoai.
The film set in French Colonial Vietnam. The main characters are A Phu and My, a H'Mong couple. They were abused and maltreated by Lord Pa Tra, an evil lord collaborating with the French to exploit the land. My was bride-kidnapped by A Su, Pa Tra's son and A Phu was enslaved for beating A Su.
When A Phu was tied up for letting a tiger take a buffalo and death was near. My cut him loose and saved him. A Phu ran off to Phieng Sa, joined the resistance and came back later to save My.
