Many of you may have seen my previous video about the 8 reasons why I don’t like Bank of America credit cards. Well, that sentiment still holds true as of December 2022, however, I decided to apply for the Bank of America Premium Rewards card credit card anyway 😀

Here’s why…

1. The current welcome offer to earn 50,000 points is worth $500 towards travel or cash back. With an annual fee of $95, that bonus alone will be $405 profit. Since we’re getting toward the end of the year and holiday shopping time, I wanted the welcome bonus to help cover the cost of buying gifts rather than using earned income.

2. I wanted to get first-hand experience using personal Bank of America credit cards that earn points. People often ask me questions about BOA credit cards that are difficult to answer without having the cards myself (e.g. “Can I redeem Bank of America points for cash back into an external checking account?”). Getting my first ever personal BOA credit card will allow me to better understand how the product and rewards work so I can answer people’s questions.

That said, if you’re in the Bank of America Preferred Rewards program (separate from credit cards and requiring account balances to be met), then you’ll receive a handful of benefits, including elevated rewards earnings with Bank of America credit cards. Those elevated rates CAN make BOA credit cards quite good, especially for cash back. On the travel side, the program also makes some cards more competitive to the Capital One Venture card and Chase Sapphire Preferred card, but without transfer partners.
